New Mexico has so many cool places within a day's drive or perfect for a weekend getaway. Angel Fire is only a three hour drive from 'Burque and a perfect "meet in the middle" spot for us and our friends, Chad and Elizabeth, who live in Colorado. So, we booked a weekend stay at Angel Fire Resort and it was wonderful. Staying at the resort is perfect because it is ski in/out with various restaurants and bars within walking distance or a short drive. I have to admit...I was initially disappointed in the accomodations because it did not look like the photos online. However, with great friends (and Peanut!) in tow plus 15" of fresh snow, it turned out to be great! Here are a few tips we picked up from the trip:
1. Book on an off weekend, way cheaper!
2. Get your boots and skis the day before. If you wait until the day of (which we did) the line is ridiculous and the staff, while extremely friendly, moves at the pace of molasses.
3. Our favorite place to eat was at the Angel Fire Country Club (open to the public) bar, Elements, but if you want to eat at the restaurant, Stonewood, you must make reservations in advance...hence why we ate at the bar :)
Eating at Chianti's our first night. The waiter made it a point to tell us to try this "new" pepper sauce...Ha! Tabasco?
The experts...
We had the mountain to ourselves! Check out the gorgeous view!
Chad hits the slopes
"Hey babe! Take a picture of my moves when come down!"

Elizabeth and I at Elements for dinner...yum!
The drive home was a little dicey, but thank God, Michael is really good at driving in the snow and ice.
We had such a fabulous time with our wonderful friends we are ready to plan our next weekend getaway...stay tuned!
