Spring has Sprung!...sort of.

So, the first official day of spring was March 20th. However, Albuquerque is not sure what season it wants to be in. In the past week we have had snow, rain, extreme desert winds, and the most gorgeous sunny weather. If you don't like the weather, don't worry, it will be different tomorrow! Here are some snapshots from around our neighborhood...

The begining of Spring for me means...my birthday! This weekend we celebrated with all of our new friends by having a fiesta! We had fajitas, margaritas, and of course a pinata! Which brings me to my latest Albuquerque favorite...Casa de Pinata. The owner of Casa de Pinata is the sweetest man who grew up in Mexico and has been in the Pinata business forever. He let my friend and I look at all the pinatas being made, gave us a history lesson on how the pinata originated, and made me a beautiful pinata by the next morning! Apparently, you are supposed to place orders weeks in advance and he can make ANYTHING into a pinata. If you are in "the Q" this is THE place for pinatas.

Sunday was my actual date of birth, so my sweet husband took me to brunch at Zinc. The food was wonderful, they had a live guitar player and brunch was very reasonably priced! We will definately go to Zinc again...hopefully soon!

Not enough meals in the day

I often think there are not enough meals in the day for all the good food in the world. Call me a foodie or a fattie, it's true! Moving to a new city has only made this more apparent. Michael and I have really been enjoying trying new restaurants and discovering our new favorites. Michael has become an extreme Yelper. For those of you who are not familiar with Yelp, it is a consumer review website mostly used for restaurants. It is great for when you are traveling or wanting to try new places in your own town. Check it out and support your favorite eateries. Here is our top ten list...(so far)

1. Restaurant Martin
2. Scalo's
3. El Pinto
4. Rooftop Pizzeria
5. Saggio's
6. Yanni's
7. The Grove
8. Relish
9. Chama River Brewing Company
10. St. Clair Winery & Bistro

Come visit! The food alone is worth the trip.

Breakfast TACO?

ABQ and Santa Fe are full of fabulous restaurants. However, the one thing missing from the menus...brace yourselves...BREAKFAST TACOS! They are no where to be found in this town. Yes, I'm serious. I have asked chefs, restauranteurs and plenty of locals and they have no idea what a breakfast taco is! Around here it is replaced with the "breakfast burrito", usually a monstrous tortilla filled with egg, hash browns, cheese, maybe a protein, and swimming in chile sauce. When eating a breakfast burrito, you must take caution, either think about splitting it or prepare to bust a gut! So, for ya'll in Texas, do not take your breakfast tacos for granted. For all you New Mexicans, here's some insight into what you are missing...

Straight to you, from "The Q"

Welcome to my blog! I have always wanted to start a blog, but was not sure what to write about. Then, about 6 months ago, Michael, Peanut and I moved from our beloved Texas to Albuqerque, New Mexico. While we only crossed one state line, sometimes I feel like we are in a different country because things can be so different. So, now you can follow us as we try to figure out what "The Land of Enchantment" is all about.

p.s. Albuquerque has a million nicknames. I don't know where any of them came from, but plan to use them all!
